Art, what is it? Well Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as "something that is created with imagination and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings". Previously I perceived art as something that is built by prior experiences or as the definition explains it "expresses important ideas or feelings", now I know this isn't anything further from the truth the disambiguation of this class has skewered my perception of "art" to create a new perception of marginalized repetition of prior facades and which en turn destroys art as a concept. The "themes" that we are supposed to "create" are again marginalized and repetitious done countless times prior to me but I did surface design.
The reason for choosing surface design was because rather than being pestered by criticism on my imagination, I used the most simplistic designs which were plates with animals on them. This highlighted the "poorer" quality plates bringing the center of attention to the drawing on the plate rather than on the form of the plate. Also this almost gave a natural essence to the plates and gave them character that doesn't come from the form or build of the plates.
In order to achieve this "theme" I chose something very simple easy to replicate and build off of then where things got intricate was the glazing giving them all a clean milky base which allowed for the animals to pop because they were painted black giving it a contrast which brought the project to life. The art shows the progressiveness of my work in art.
Although the ceramics is hard the invitation to grow was shattered by consistent bewildering comments that destroyed my drive to achieve even higher in the class especially when i was finished cleaning then yelled at that i wasn't doing anything even though I'm done. Also when I'm half way through a project and I'm told that its terrible which is contradicting to how I perceive art. Even though constructive criticism is welcomed blatant bashing and slander is not and helps no one.
